I studied Law and Sociology at Koç University. Law taught me to examine the questions technology raises through rights and responsibilities; sociology taught me to look at what changes in people’s lives, institutions and relations of power. From my second year at university, my assistantship work explored how AI and emerging technologies affect law and society. These questions have held my interest for about ten years.
I received an offer of admission to Harvard Law School with a scholarship. My application essay focused on bias in AI.
After qualifying as a lawyer, I began working with technology companies on technology policy, government affairs and corporate relations. Across more than seven years of professional experience, I have advised over 25 companies. Today, as an IAPP AIGP-certified AI governance professional, I draw on that experience in research, advisory work and teaching.
Research helps me understand the rules and the evidence. Sociology makes me ask who benefits and who carries the consequences. In advisory work, I bring those questions into the organisation’s decisions, governance and everyday AI use.
